momma lam tried to warn me, "don't ride your bike!" but i didn't listen. this weekend was summer streets so matt and i took a leisurely ride with no traffic down to the brooklyn bridge and then back up to central park. it was great! we rode through grand central. we stopped off for free lemonade at st. thomas. matt continued on through the park as i decided to return home. the ride home seemed to be going fine. park avenue was completely open. i cruised down, but as i tried to brake, my hand slipped, and the bike and i fell down to the left. no pedestrians, no cars, no cyclists, no animals were injured. only me and the pavement. the helmet cracked a little but did it's job protecting my noggin. my left ribs took most of the impact. of course, immediately, i was worried about nugget! but everyone sprung into action, including the cops, to get me to the hospital quickly and safely. shortly thereafter, the doctors did a sonogram to reveal that nugget's heartbeat was fine. the placenta was fine. and nugget was even sucking his/her thumb! WHEW. nugget is one tough cookie. to protect nugget, they didn't want to give me a CT scan, so they kept me in the hospital overnight to monitor my blood count to ensure no internal bleeding. luckily, new york hospital was super swank. my bed was amazing. the morphine wasn't so bad. and after activitating our TV, we were able to watch phelps win his 8th gold! i have to say. i am super thankful that nugget is safe. that my injuries sustained weren't so terrible in the grand scheme of things. and that it is confirmed that i have the best husband ever. nurse matt has been amazing. he helped me out of bed twice in the middle of the night so i could go to the bathroom. he's been taking care of dodger. he cooked AND cleaned last night. :-) nugget is going to have a very good daddy.
here's a pic of momma lam, doubles, me and matt just before momma lam warned me no to ride my bike:
Vina and I went to Peter Luger Steakhouse for lunch yesterday (it was Vina's b-day) and we tried the burger, which had been highly reccomended. It lived up to the hype. Very simple: just meat and american cheese on a brioche bun, but it was a burger that was as rich and had as much depth as a Peter Luger steak. Anyway, we also indulged in a couple pieces of the canadian bacon each, which are always delish. Miracle of miracles, Vina wasn't hungry again until nearly 8pm at night, so I guess the nugget was sated by all the meat.
nugget is now watching the olympic opening ceremony through my growing belly right now. nugget thinks it's absolutely crazy!
this sono was taken at St. Luke's Roosevelt as part of our "sequential screening" testing.
