just yesterday we experimented with turning bailey around in the baby björn. she watched while i cooked ramp gnocchi (recipe here). bailey enjoyed the view. tonight, we tested it out on a stroll to union square. on the way back, she even fell asleep. it was pretty damn cute!
for the past couple weeks, i've been trying to show bailey that she can reach out with her hands to make her toys move, but this morning bailey discovered she could kick them and make the move. recently, she started having lengthy conversations with them too! sometimes she even tries to stare down the monkey by giving him evil eye.
finally, we had shorts and t-shirt weather in nyc this weekend and it was great! bailey was able to ride around in her stroller with the top down.

even though babies are supposed to like b&w graphics, bailey wasn't impressed with sol lewitt this morning. she slept through most of the other exhibits. and when she wasn't sleeping, she was doing alot of clawing at her face. i think she's discovered her hands, and in so doing, she has taken a liking to trying to scratch her eyeballs out.
hooray for mittens and manicures!
at this morning's appointment, bailey weighed in at 11lb and measured 22.6 in. she's now above average in weight and height! :-)
she also had 3 vaccinations and 1 oral squirt. even though i nursed her through it, she screamed bloody murder. her face turned red. and she cried her first real tears (or tear as it may be).
some interesting baby facts we learned (based on questions we brought):
- babies are not supposed to be exposed to direct sunlight until they are 6 months old (so no beach vacations for bailey this summer)
- ear infections usually occur after a baby gets a cold (but batting at ears is not a true indication of an ear infection since all babies bat at their ears)
- breastmilk is the best defense a baby has against a cold
- there's no need to use a nasal aspirator unless baby is having trouble breathing or eating
- scheduling feeds during the day can help a baby sleep better at night
this weekend, both of bailey's grandmas called and asked for more videos! here's a personal shout out to them and if you follow this link, you can see even more videos.
bailey turned 2 months old this week, and it has been treating her quite well. during her 6th and 7th weeks, she was VERY grunty. it sounded like she was having a difficult time digesting her food, so we tried giving her some mylicon (which helped only a little). but everyone at the new mom groups told me it would pass. and last week—week 8, it did. she still grunts from time to time, but overall, she has been in much better spirits. also, she's progressively had more awake time during the day, and it seems that she has even started to have "conversations" with more complex sounds. also this past week, i experimented with pumping and bringing a bottle out with me. thankfully, she's taken to it really well (although she still prefers the boobs).
yesterday, she met her aunt denise, uncle john and uncle mike. she really liked them all! uncle john tried the football hold on her and aunt denise told her all sorts of fun stories. together, we went to the rubin museum where bailey learned about tibetan art and then we had a nice dinner at kingswood. she can't wait to see them again tomorrow in new jersey.
